A regional workshop to formulate the barley R4D strategies addressing the research issues in South Asia will be held between 19-22 May 2014 at Directorate of Wheat Research, ICAR, Karnal, India. The workshop will bring together all research stakeholders in South Asia in one single platform for effective implementation of barley activates within the CGIAR Research Program on Dryland Cereals (Dryland Cereals).
Scientists working in barley from Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh will participate in the four day workshop. Scientists from Indian barley program from different states, farmers’ organizations, representatives from extension agencies and industry will also participate in the workshop.
Dr S K Datta, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) ICAR, India; Dr Ashutosh Sarker, Regional Coordinator, ICARDA – South Asia & China and Dr RPS Verma, Barley Breeder at ICARDA will also participate in the workshop.
The workshop organized in collaboration between ICAR and ICARDA is part of the Product Line 5 activities of Dryland Cereals. The Product Line 5: Multi-purpose barley production technologies to meet food, feed and fodder demands in the dry regions of Africa and Asia is being coordinated by Dr RPS Verma.
